SOC 300 |
define the role of human agency in shaping institutions and structures in society. |
1 - All or most students |
Individual |
In future classes, I would like to encourage students to think locally about their ability to identify and challenge unequal institutional processes. I plan to ask students to identify institutional policies or practices at ARC that shape student success in a negative way. I will then use this as a moment to consider how social structures factor in and ask students to design an intervention or change that might create a more equitable college. |
SOC 300 |
identify and discuss major issues facing the world today from a sociological standpoint. |
2 - More than half of students |
Individual |
I am planning on updating the news articles I use as the basis for discussions in order to be sure they are current. I try to do this at least every two semesters. |

Being that the class was held online, there was minimal interaction between students besides discussion boards. I would like to see more interaction and dialogue with in person sessions to better understand how students conceptualize these ideas in their own lives and lived experiences. I'd also be interested in doing a purposeful gallery walk or discussion with students at the end of the semester focusing on each of the SLOs and have the students provide examples of how/where they experienced each of the SLOs in action during the course. I'd also like to examine how that specific example may have shaped their sociological imagination in their communities outside of the classroom. |
SOC 300 |
apply the micro-sociological and interpersonal level analysis to social behavior. |
